Rootikal with Aba Shant I, this Sunday Sept 5th

On 5th of September Rootikal welcomes back the legendary Aba Shanti I for the final Sunday session at East Village, 89 Great Eastern St, Shoreditch, EC2A 3HX

During a period spanning almost two years of monthly dances, there have been regular appearances by the UK‘s heaviest selectors, including David Rodigan, Channel One, Nick Manasseh, Russ Disciple, Chris Peckings, and Sunday‘s special guest, Aba-Shanti-I. During this time, a number of leading artists have also featured, with Linval Thompson, Gappy Ranks, Errol Bellot and the Necessary Mayhem crew all making appearances. After Sunday’s gig there will follow a break for a couple of months before Rootikal returns for their new East Village residency on the first Friday of every other month, starting on December 3rd.

This Sunday’s guest, Aba Shanti I, the Earth Rocker made his name deejaying with Jah Tubby’s sound, later recording with Blood Shanti (his brother) before playing with his live band, the Shanti-Ites.

He will be supported in the basement by the Trojan Sound System’s own Earl Gateshead and mic man Ben Cutter, whilst upstairs in the lounge Stuart Patterson and Nick B come with the revival selection. Together they will be spinning a Rootikal selection covering all bases of righteous music, with the session kicking off early in the lounge at 2pm and the basement opening at 7pm.

2pm-1am – free before 5pm and £5 thereafter.
